Church History
Abundant Life Holiness Church was founded by Rev. B.F. Middleton. He felt the call of God to start an Assembly of God Church here in Bernice, Louisiana. Bro. Middleton felt that the church needed to be in an area that was on a main highway. He inquired about the property and was told that it wasn't for sale. A couple of weeks later, he felt led to ask again; and when he returned, the owner, known as Catfish Jones, had changed his mind. Bro. Middleton went with Bro. Foote to Monroe and got the loan for the property without the usual down payment.
The first service was on August 6, 1972 in an old house then located at the front of the property. After sometime the youth indicated that they would like a better building to invite their friends too. Bro. Middleton told them if they would raise $400 in the building fund that he would start building a church. The young people got a trailer and picked up glass bottles on the side of the road and heaped that trailer over with glass bottles that were sold for 3 cents a piece at the bottling company in Monroe and the project began.
Thru the years we have been blessed with several pastors: Bro. James Morris came for a short time in 1979. Then, Bro. Jimmy Jones became the pastor. He remained at the church for over 21 years and in 1999 the church decided to become an independent holiness church under his leadership. After Bro. Jones left, Bro. David Fetner became the pastor, followed by Matt Cuny, and then Woody Posey. On November 4, 2012, Bro. Michael Brandon became the pastor and remains so today.
Our church has also been blessed with many wonderful people who have supported the church through the years. including our founding deacon Billy Grey and his wife Martha who have passed away. We are thankful for their willingness to stand for holiness and truth in an ever changing world.
